Pair of BFF-1 freighters approaching Moroa.

Operation Edelweiss is one of the most important historic events for the One Nation. It marks the discovery of the Morobe system, which has been home to those who have discovered and colonised it since Year 14. Those involved in the project are culturally celebrated by the nation, especially during the festive Day of Discovery.

Prelude

The search for a system to colonise began in late Year 13, after a group of naval officers left Imperial service and continued to work together in Aurora Technologies. The company had a wide network of shipyards and a steady stream of customers, but it was not wholly owned by those who publicly run it. Rather than living on borrowed resources, the group wanted to pursue their own destiny in the galaxy, and find a home where they could establish their own base of operations.

Discovery

The search was already at least two months in progress when Ninian DeLayn discovered Morobe, approximately on Day 103 of Year 14. The discovery triggered the mobilisation of all assets and personnel that Aurora Technologies could muster, in addition to calling upon allies, who were also former Imperials, such as Polarisruner, Gabriel Kaine and his Damorian Manufacturing Corporation.

Race against time

As per the galactic discoveries charter, the group only had one week before the discovery of the system was announced to the galaxy. The pressure was to secure all four planets within the time limit to ensure there would be no conflict with other groups that were also searching for uncharted planets to settle on. Grand Admiral Dregoth was put in command of the operation, and under his leadership pilots and construction workers laboured day and night to construct cities that would solidify the group's claim on the planets.

Original design of the Operation Edelweiss Medal.

The first city was constructed on Moroa (0,0) on Day 104. Morta was the next planet to be built on, the foundations for the city Tor Aashrur (2,2) were laid on Day 105. Construction of the first cities on the planets Talasea (0,0) and Morabora (2,0) also began on that day. The construction of facilities started to be completed on Day 108. The first facilities to finish were on Morabora, followed by Talasea, Moroa and Morta. On Day 110 the system's discovery was announced on the Galactic News Service. The announcement came mere hours before the security of all four planets was confirmed.

Aftermath

In the aftermath of the project, those involved were presented with the Operation Edelweiss Medal. Those decorated included, but were not limited to; Pak Gjin, Raffael Goschmitt, Gredek Dregoth, Senki Blackrain, Ninian DeLayn and Reese Beoulve. Control of the system was held by Damorian Manufacturing Corporation until it was transferred to Sienar Fleet Systems several months later.
