Morobe is a binary star system located in the Morobe sector of the Colonies region. The two suns are orbited by four planets. The system was surveyed and colonised in Year 14, and has been governed by Sienar Fleet Systems and Permanent Solutions corporate conglomerate until Year 18 when it became protectorate of Tion Hegemony. In Year 21 the system became the seat of power of the newly formed One Nation Under Jou.
Overview
Despite its proximity to the Core region, there are no records of the Morobe system in the galactic star-charts before Year 14. The system was surveyed by an independent group in that year and its location was released to the public domain on Day 110. By the time the discovery reached galactic news outlets, the group that discovered the system secured control of it with the help from Damorian Manufacturing Corporation during Operation Edelweiss. The corporation relieved control of the system several months later when the founding group created Sienar Fleet Systems to develop a shipbuilding industry.
Thanks to being only a short distance away from the galactic economic and political powerhouse of the Core region, Morobe’s industry has developed quickly and over the next two years the system saw an influx of colonists looking for work and a place to live. Governance of the system was mostly driven by corporate enterprise, offering colonists relative freedom and respite from the Galactic Civil War. This boom in population and economic growth facilitated the need for defence of the system, which resulted in creation of Permanent Solutions in Year 16, a mercenary company that provided security for the system and held control over the colonies.
The Morobe system remained independent from any major government until late Year 18 when it became the protectorate of Tion Hegemony. Permanent Solutions and their fleet was turned into the 3rd Fleet of the Tion Navy, also known as the Tion Defence Division. With support from the government Morobe saw exponential growth in population thanks to planet-wide construction efforts on Morabora. This partnership lasted for three years, steadily increasing industrial capabilities of the system and building up its defences. Morobe ceased to be protectorate of Tion Hegemony in Year 21 when One Nation Under Jou declared sovereignty over the system.
Astrography
The system consists of two suns, Morobe Major and Minor, and four planets. Moroa and Talasea orbit the suns at the right distance and formed into lush garden worlds, while Morta suffered the most from its close proximity to one of the suns and has the most hostile environment in the system. Morabora has the widest orbit and is permanently covered in snow and ice.
Hyperlanes
As of Year 25, Morobe is connected to other systems by 123 public hyperlanes. The most heavily researched hyperlane is between Morobe and Vorsia with over 16,000 data blocks, providing a significant reduction in travel time between the two systems. All other hyperlanes have been significantly less researched. No other hyperlane has more than 4,000 data blocks.
Infrastructure
Construction of space stations began within the same year that Morobe was surveyed. The first space stations to be constructed were nine shipyards in orbit of Moroa to increase the manufacturing capability of Sienar Fleet Systems. The Moroa Shipping Hub, as the shipyards are collectively known, was constructed in Year 14 between Day 335 and Day 343. With the increased production capacity, the necessity to connect to the galactic market arose and construction of a trading station began on the same day as the last shipyard. From Year 23 Day 252 to Year 25 Day 280 the trading station was operated by the Mecrotica Conglomerate, one of the largest trading networks in the galaxy.
In Year 15 the system saw further investment into the production infrastructure with six shipyards over Talasea and a research station located centrally between the two shipyard hubs. The construction started on Day 207, and the six orbital shipyards began construction between Day 210 and Day 223. In service of One Nation Under Jou, the primary function of the research station has been hyperlane research, which has significantly improved travel times between Morobe and Vorsia systems. As of Year 25, over one hundred hyperlanes have been researched.
Early in Year 18 the first military stations were added to the system. In a year-long project, from Year 18 Day 98 to Year 19 Day 87, eight Golan II stations were constructed on the hyper exit points by Tion Hegemony.
In Year 20 the first major depot station was constructed on Day 135 by Nikklon Mining Incorporated, a Tionese nationalized company, to assist with development projects spearheaded by Tion Hegemony. The need for a central storage location in space was identified during the Year 19 development project on Morabora. Since then the depot has significantly helped to reduce logistical demands during future projects. The Fenn Depot was named after Darius Fenn, the construction manager of the station from Tion.
In Year 22 the recently established One Nation Under Jou funded its first expansion of system defences and production infrastructure. The project, code-named Project Shieldmaiden, added thirteen stations to the system between Day 190 and 194. The new military stations included a centrally located Golan II, built with assistance from the Mando`ade government, and eight Ataturk-class stations added to the pre-existing hyper exit point defences. The Talasea shipyard hub was completed by adding three shipyards, and a second depot station was constructed between Moroa and Morta to assist with mining operations of the Celestial Technologies. Later that year, Morta Orbital Conservatory was constructed on Day 323.
When mining operations were expanded in Year 23 by the Scrapper Guild, a third depot station was constructed on Day 79 between Morabora and Talasea. Later in the year a hospital station was constructed on Day 153 to establish the healing network of Royal Vorsian Healthcare. As partnership with the Confederacy of Independent Systems grew, so did the need for an additional shipyard hub to function as the base of operations for a Confederate task force. These shipyards were constructed on Day 249 by Dorinian Military Corps.
In Year 25 a significant upgrade to the system's defence took place and the number of defence stations in Morobe was more than doubled with the addition of twenty-four Ataturk-class stations. All of the defence stations were built in close proximity of the hyper exit points. The military stations were constructed between Days 283 and 289. Within the same development project two additional depot stations were constructed, one to the west of the system, built on Day 287, and another between North Depot and Fenn Depot, built on Day 288.
