Each planet within One Nation has its own distinct traditions, customs and symbolism; collectively creating a diverse culture across the nation. The difference in culture is the most noticeable between Morobe and Vorsia systems, due to developing independently for a long time before joining together in a political union. However, many cultural aspects are shared across the nation.

Planetary society

Morabora

The average resident of Morabora is a working class person. Generally, the residents have a no-nonsense attitude and concern themselves less with the nation's politics and focus more on their day to day lives. Residents of Morabora have a good standard of living where their needs for work and housing are met, but understand the comfort in their lives comes from properly functioning infrastructure of their cities; without environmental controls the harsh frozen environment of the planet would not make their lives pleasant. It is common practice on Morabora to not be wasteful with resources, especially with food, which is not taken for granted as the majority of non-processed food is imported from other planets.

Elements of the population believe they are the most important planet in the nation, due to being the largest and most populated, and there are those who could complain about the upper echelons of the government not giving Morabora enough attention, however, the vast majority appreciate the safety and stability of living in the system.

Moroa

Life on Moroa is busy. As the heart of the nation, the planet's residents are driven to be always on the move, lest someone else takes their opportunities. The wealth available to the residents also allows them to enjoy themselves frequently, and take advantage of the tropical environment and countless shopping plazas. Many people of Moroa could be described as flamboyant, especially those in the capital city and the surrounding districts. The planet also has a large student population, the largest universities in the system can be found on Moroa and they attract students from across the nation.

Patriotism can also be felt on Moroa more than anywhere else in the system, due to the presence of the royal family and resulting media campaigns that maintain positive opinions about the monarch and the government. Support for the One Nation's federal government is strongest on Moroa because the citizens feel the benefits the most.

Morta

Living on Morta is difficult on the best of days. The planet's environment is unforgiving and those who live on Morta most often do not live there by choice or preference. Majority of residents are low skill labourers in the numerous factories and mines, and when they are not working they can most often be found either in a local tavern or rushing to get home. The planet has a very minor population of young people and children, those born there usually consider themselves unfortunate and will try to leave for a different planet in the nation at the earliest opportunity, and families avoid raising children there as much as possible.

The struggle of living on Morta caused many of its residents to turn to crime. It is the only planet in the nation which has a problem with organised crime, gang activities and other illegal businesses. Some of the locals believe that Morta was forgotten by the federal government and is only used for its resources. Popularity of Tor Aashrur with bounty hunters and offworlders in general has made it more difficult to contain the underworld activities. The frequent traffic to and from the city makes it difficult to monitor, and the inability to fully shield the planet would make such efforts more work than it would be worth. The locals who have no other means to travel are usually eager to take jobs that will take them off the planet.

Talasea

The residents of Talasea are hard working people who know their value to the nation. They are proud of their agricultural work and the local politicians can be more blunt with the demands on the federal government because of the planet's importance. Most residents of Talasea live in relative luxury but leisure is secondary to ensuring their farms and fields are taken care of. People of Talasea are also generally known to be fit and active, and often quite intelligent due to the prevalence of research facilities on the planet.

Talasea is home to some of the wealthiest citizens; the planet is seen as a great place for retirement due to its large natural parks and reservations. The areas of untouched nature also attract many tourists, which are not always welcomed by the locals if they are not respectful to the environment and the wildlife. The laws for preserving nature on Talasea carry some of the harshest penalties.

Vorsia Companion

People of Vorsia Companion consider themselves culturally separate from the rest of the nation, they are Vorsian first and are not overly concerned with affairs of Morobe. Majority of the nation's nobles are Vorsian, and this is reflected in the sentiment of loyalty to the Crown, rather than the federal government. Not many residents of the older generations take the opportunity to live or work in Morobe. Mostly the younger generations travel outside of the moon to experience something new. Those who lived through the moon's changes and improvements in standards of living are quite happy to remain there.

The prevalence of Human High Culture also makes the moon feel unwelcoming to non-humans, and those who visit Vorsia are mostly interested in the historic sites of the faith rather than visiting for leisure. When Vorsians visit Morobe, they are often met with preconceived opinions about not liking non-humans, which can make social life difficult for those that moved to Morobe for study or work.

Festive days

Discovery Day

Discovery Day is celebrated across the One Nation to commemorate the discovery of Morobe, and to honour those who participated in Operation Edelweiss. Although the system's discovery was publicly announced on Day 110, the festive day takes place on Day 103, which marks the day the system was actually discovered in Year 14. The festive day is not as popular on Vorsia Companion as it is among citizens of Morobe.

Unification Day

Unification Day is the official national day of One Nation. It is celebrated annually on Day 308 when the establishment of One Nation was declared to the galaxy in Year 21. The festive day aims to celebrate the nation's diverse society, its history and the achievements of its citizens. Currently, the festive day also corresponds with Coronation Day, which commemorates the coronation of the reigning monarch.

Iconography

Allegorical Figures

Angel of Mercy, portrayed as Chiss.

Allegorical figures are personifications of abstract concepts such as triumph, faith, and virtue. In the iconography of One Nation Under Jou, the figures are generally of humanoid form, but not always, and convey social values and themes through posture, gesture, clothing and props. The items that they carry help identify their meaning, for example, the allegorical figure of faith carries a flaming torch, while the figure of achievement has a wreath of laurel leaves. The most prominent use of this practice is on the nation's awards. However, the figures can also be found as statues in churches, and other culturally significant places.

Notable allegorical figures:

  • Faith and Virtue - An angel holding up a flaming torch, representing the guiding light of Jou's Grace.
  • Knowledge - An angel with arms raised towards the heavens, a symbolic gesture to welcome all into One Nation's Chronicle and share the collective knowledge held there.
  • Mercy - An angel with a trumpet. The instrument is used by the angel to herald the arrival of emergency services to those in need.
  • Shieldmaiden - A woman holding a sword in right hand and a shield with One Nation's symbol in the left. The sword points downwards in a non-aggressive posture because the Shieldmaiden is a symbol of stalwart defence.
  • Triumph and Achievement - An angel carrying a wreath of laurel leaves, a common symbol for victory.

Angels

Up until Year 14, the term angel was mostly used across the galaxy in reference to the mysterious Diathim race. Since the discovery of their homeworld and their subsequent introduction to galactic society, the aura of mystery around the race has diminished.

In the iconography of One Nation Under Jou, angels were inspired by Diathim appearance and are portrayed as humanoids with feathered wings. They are most often used to represent allegorical figures of virtuous ideals because of the nation's relationship with the symbology of heavens. Much of the nation's iconography, including the nation's primary symbol, is a reference to the sun and other celestial bodies.

The royal crown.

In Year 23, an angel has been used as the symbol of Royal Vorsian Healthcare. Thus far there have been no examples of non-humanoid figures portrayed as angels.

Royal crown

The royal crown of Morobe is a common symbol found among One Nation's iconography, especially on official documents linked to the monarch. It is a visual representation of the ceremonial crown worn by the monarch during formal occasions in Morobe. The royal crown is different to the crown used during the coronation of Lilith of Vorsia that marked the founding of the nation. The symbol is prominently used on the nation's banners and awards; it is most obvious on the Crown of Morobe Medal. As an official symbol of the monarchy, within One Nation it is prohibited to use the symbol without a permission from the federal government.
